Guidelines for submission
Editor Tom Wheare is happy to listen to all editorial ideas, whether
they come from teachers, support staff, Heads, bursars, governors –
anyone with an involvement in HMC schools.
We also welcome submissions of brief news articles, telling the
wonderful stories of achievement and creative learning that go on every
day up and down the country. We are also very keen to receive photos
either to accompany your article or news item, although please do
ensure that you have all the necessary permissions for the photos (see Photo Guidelines below).
Guidelines:
* If you have an idea for a longer editorial article for Conference & Common Room magazine, please email the editor via tom@dunbry.plus.com
with your suggestion. Tom will always endeavour to get back to you, although this may
take a few days. By submitting, you are giving us permission to use your article in both print and digital form.
* Conference & Common Room magazine is
published three times a year, at the start of each school term
(September, January and May). To help with planning and publishing
deadlines, please do get in touch with the editor as far as possible in
advance of the issue you would like your article to appear.
* Suggested article length: approx 1300 words, plus two
photographs, for a double-page article. News articles should be around
200 words in length, ideally accompanied by a selection of photos.
* We will also consider book or product reviews (appropriate to the magazine).
* Please include some brief biographical information and your email address.
* We do not accept articles that are written in an advertorial
style. All editorial must be of genuine use to school
staff.
* We reserve the right to reject articles. Whilst we are keen to
celebrate the diversity of HMC school education, we also
need to make sure that articles reflect the aims and values of the
magazine.
* We need to ensure that the content of each issue is balanced so
it may sometimes be necessary to keep articles on hold for future
issues. We will try to inform you beforehand which issue your article
will appear, but cannot guarantee this.
* We reserve the right to edit articles. Please let us know if you wish to see the edited version before we go to print.
* We prefer to publish articles that have not been published before
anywhere. If your article has been published previously, please inform
us of this and ensure that you have permission to have it published
elsewhere.
Photo Guidelines:
* Please supply photos as an attachment by email to reach us by the appropriate deadline.
* All images submitted to us - especially those featuring children -
must come with all appropriate permissions for use and by submitting
images, you thereby give us permission to use these images in both print
and digital publications.
* Please ensure that your photos are of as high a resolution as
possible. This means 300dpi or above. As a guide, photo files should be
over 1mb in size.
* Photos for use on the inside pages can be portrait or landscape.
* Photos to be considered for the front cover must be portrait and at least 2272 x 1074 pixels.
